What Sal Klita actually is
Sal Klita (absorption basket) is paid by Misrad HaKlita in instalments, not as one grant. Here is how it works.
Which benefit unlocks in which month
Your entitlements run on the aliyah date printed on your teudat oleh, which is the day you landed only if you arrived as an oleh.
Your credit history did not fly with you
The Israeli Credit Data System starts empty for every oleh. What that blocks, and how you begin filling it.
Put your own numbers in before you decide anything
Work out your Sal Klita
Your instalments depend on family status and arrival timing. See what yours come to.
Map your benefits onto a calendar
Enter your aliyah date and see which entitlement opens, and which closes, in which month.
Price a month of living here
Build a monthly budget in shekels, by city and household size, so you know what the first months actually cost.
Estimate what a bank will charge you
Israeli banks bill per transaction on top of a monthly account fee. Estimate your own exposure.
The reference shelf: your options, and your home country, side by side
The aliyah bureaucracy cheat sheet
Every office you will deal with, what it is called in Hebrew, and what it is for.
The banking Hebrew cheat sheet
The words on the forms and the ATM screen, with their English equivalents.
What you still owe your home country
Pick your country of origin. One guide per country: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, France and Australia.
Compare the oleh banking packages
The major banks each sell an oleh package. What is genuinely waived, and for how long.
Compare the four health funds
Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet and Leumit side by side, on the things that differ for a newcomer.
The five worth getting to inside your first 90 days
Enrol with a kupat cholim
You join at a branch of the fund itself. What the basic basket covers everyone, what enrolling takes, and how switching works later.
Register with Bituach Leumi (National Insurance) at your local branch, or online, in your first weeks. Bring your teudat oleh (new-immigrant certificate), your teudat zehut (national ID) and your passport. Bituach Leumi is where your mas briut (health-tax) contributions and your national-insurance entitlements sit, and olim get an exemption from those contributions for an initial period measured from the aliyah date.
Do not miss the supplemental-insurance window
The clock for supplemental cover on easier terms starts when you join a kupat cholim, not when you land. What the window is, and what missing it costs.
Open your account in person with your teudat zehut, teudat oleh and passport. Ask explicitly for the oleh package: it is not applied automatically. If you hold US citizenship the branch will also have you sign a W-9 at opening, which is FATCA reporting and is routine. Compare at least two banks before you sign, and read the fee schedule you are actually being put on.
Claim your olim credit points
Olim get extra nekudot zikui (tax credit points) against income tax. They are claimed, not granted automatically.
